Luna’s breeder

Posted in Luna | No Comments »

Real quick post before I go to sleep: Luna’s breeder came over and helped me with some discipline with Luna and some behavior modification – basically, tiring her out and walking her and letting her know who is the boss!

Tomorrow she’s coming back to work with her some more. It’s helped – she was tuckered out and would sit and lay down when I asked her to. She wasn’t trying to jump all over me and Joshua. She willingly went to bed – worn out! The breeder Elizabeth’s kids played with Luna for at least 1/2 an hour, chasing her and then her chasing them. Elizabeth explained that herding dogs want to be in control of situations since that’s bred into them, so she actually suggested a choke collar to walk her with and straighten her out when she mis-behaves. She also advised not to let her jump all over people and rough house – supports more bad habits.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings!

Yesterday

I was really sick all weekend but I went into work.

Yesterday I had a fever so I decided to work from home, I thought it would be more relaxing…..

….Well, Luna had an accident in her kennel, diarrhea all over. I took her outside to wash her in the hose and she nipped at me. She then ran away and I had to chase her down. She doesn’t come when I call. I admit, we haven’t had enough time to train her as we should have since Josh came into the picture, but this is getting really frustrating. I am tired of spending my evening trying to keep her from getting out of the fence. Donald has fixed it in pieces, but I think we really need a new fence…

So, after that, I scrubbed out the garage. She then pooped all over downstairs, so I had to scrub that, too. She kept trying to get out so I put her upstairs for a bit, and she pooped upstairs, so I then had to clean those spots up.

Josh was not happy with me — he was in his high chair crying, but I had to shower and get changed before I could pick him up after cleaning up Luna’s mess.

I then gave Josh a bath, and I slipped before I went to pick him up. My whole right side hurts – I don’t think I cracked anything, but I bruised up pretty good.

I called Donald and left him a scathing voicemail (my poor husband) telling him that Luna is HIS dog and HE needs to make her behave or give her to someone else or do SOMETHING with her. I know we haven’t spent the time with her we need to, and she is a very active dog, but something needs to be done about the fence so she can run around and play, rather than being locked up all the time.

I then was working until 7:30pm from home, just beat. Today I’m at work. I don’t think I’m ever going to work from home again.

I was thinking today, Luna has escaped our fence at least 6 times. Even after Donald fixed it, she somehow got out today. A very nice neighbor brought her back. Our neighbors are a lot nicer than our old house; our old neighbors would call the cops on us for keeping our car in the street too long. It’s nice to be back into a “small” town, things don’t seem as uptight. I think we’ve met most of our neighbors from our silly puppy running around the neighborhood.

Well, Joshua is napping, I’m going to try to catch a nap, too!

Things are good, overall. Donald and I have to redo our budget and figure out what to do about the leaky basement. We think we’ve pinned it down to being from the sink. I think we forgot how much work a house is – we had done so much work on our old house (painting, windows, remodeling) that we got it in tip top shape, and now we’re starting over with all the remodeling and revamping! I think Donald and I have decided we aren’t going to move again….we’ll just add on.

Joshua is starting to pick his head up while being on his tummy! It’s so nuts….it was like he couldn’t do it one day, then all of a sudden he started doing it! He’s a fun baby.

Donald did some honey-do’s today – he fixed our fence (yeah!) so hopefully Luna can frolick in the yard again without running away!

crud.

Luna’s still been sick. Stressful trying to take care of her and try to unpack, etc. Didn’t get as much done while Josh’s aunt Delaina was babysitting, but I did get some books unpacked. Donald agreed to take Luna to the vet in the morning, so that is a big help. I just feel overwhelmed. I guess on Friday at 3pm our house closing will actually take place…so that will be nice to be official.

Please pray for us about finding a church home. It’s a tough decision, because you want to find a church that “feels” and “looks” right, but then you need to find a church that has sound Christian teaching. I want our children to love the Lord and to love His Word. I want our kids to know that when everything is falling apart that Jesus is the only one you can depend on. If a church doesn’t have the fundamentals, nothing else matters. Please pray we’d make a wise decision. There are a lot of choices in the Kansas City area and it feels a bit overwhelming. We like the Lutheran church we’ve visited, but I think I’d like to visit a few more. We’re going to adopt children of color, so I would like to find a church with some diversity…wish us luck (and pray for us!) on all fronts!
