“Sweetie”

I was on the phone for work today, arguing with someone about a decision we had made.

This man on the phone said to me, “No, sweetie, you just don’t get it, you don’t understand.”

SWEETIE?!?! Excuse me! I just about flipped out. That is TERRIBLY sexist. Would you EVER call a guy you’re arguing with “Sweetie?” Like I am some child that doesn’t know what I’m talking about.

I haven’t had any sexist comments thrown at me in a while, so this just threw me for a loop.

  2. I hate that. When I was shopping for my mattress, some salesguy actually replied to one of my questions with, “Now why would you worry your pretty little head over something like that?” Totally made me want to rip out the Wonder Woman bracelets and kick his butt somewhere into the next century.

  3. Ah living in Thailand has been a real eye opener on this issue as well. See in this culture, based on Buddhist philosophy the best that women can hope for is that they are reincarnated as a man in the next life. See women are seen as a Karmic mistake that male made in a previous life and that is why they have been born a woman.

Consequently, I can’t tell you how many times I am dismissed by Thai men when asking a question if my husband happens to be present, they won’t even acknowledge me and will only talk to him not me.

Sin breeds ignorance doesn’t?! I am of recently so heightenly aware of this it grieves me to no end!
